Smash Palace

We are really living up to our name with a huge crash outside the front door yesterday. With glass and bumper bars flying into the bar it was really quite exciting. Luckily nobody in the cars was hurt and nobody was standing in the wrong place in the bar.

I watch that corner every day and it surprises me there aren’t more big smashes with the way people run the red turning arrow.

Be careful everybody and drive safe.

Landscape

Friday is here guys. With nothing too interesting to report I thought I’d use this post as a plug for my old buddies James and Jock.

James and Jock run Landscapes Unlimited and have been worked off their smelly little feet since the earthquakes.

They do decks, drives. lawns and all that crap that is outside the house. If you need any landscape work done I will be deeply offended if you use anyone else. I think they are great and so will you if you use them.

Give them a call on 0508 30 30 30 or you can find them at their website if you click here.

This feels like an advetorial but I promise I did this just because I back them.

St Patrick’s Day

In true Moore Family fashion, we’re going to be having a great party down at the bar on Sunday for St Patrick’s Day. Come on down to Smash Palace and enjoy Magners Cider on tap, Jameson’s Whiskey and loads of Irish music.

Unfortunately, due to Johnny, Tim and Mikey all being away, the band consisting of just Pam and Jock won’t be making an appearance this year, however, we have plenty of music to keep us all entertained.

Also, with Johnny and Tim being away and Rosie being heavily pregnant – we don’t have enough people to make up an 8 hand this year but I’m sure that won’t stop us from showing off and dancing at some stage during the evening.

Johnny and Juliet’s Wedding

Hello all,

Johnny is away on his honeymoon for the next three weeks so I’m in charge of the bar.

We had Johnny and Juliet’s amazing wedding last weekend. Juliet was the most beautiful bride, wearing her Grandmothers gown and Johnny scrubbed up well for the event.

200 people put on their glad rags and celebrated their civil union in Abberley Park and were then piped down the road by a local bag piper, to the Scottish Society Hall.

The day was incredible and went without a hitch. Highlights of the night were Greg and Tim’s massive party popper, which has been described as being like Tommy’s conception – 2 seconds of fun for a huge amount of work and the Wedding Cheese Cake – so much cheese.

Here’s a photo of the stunning couple.

Opening Time

Hey everybody,

In exciting news our website got hacked this week. Quite what hackers want to achieve hacking a website as crappy as this one I can only imagine. I suppose if you’ve already done the US Defense Dept. the next logical hack is a half-arse bar in Smash City.

This post is to let you all know that we have changed our opening hours to 3pm each day. We have had a couple of staff go back to uni over the past few weeks and it seems mean to hire somebody for a month before needing to cut staff for winter.

The midday to 3pm slot has always been a bit quiet and we figure why fight public opinion? We will just run an excellent bar and if you need anything to eat or drink at midday on the weekend there are plenty of excellent options in this city (try C1 on Tuam – always excellent).

So just to make it nice and easy:

SMASH PALACE IS OPEN FROM 3PM, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK.

New Year’s Eve

Hey Everybody,

Today we are open from 3pm-1am for our massive NYE party. The sun is shining and the Bodgie Beer is locked and loaded.

DJ Tanner and Rewind – two of the best DJs in the city – will be spinning records from about 5pm.

Nice people only please. See you all tonight. Have a safe evening and look after your friends.

Following NYE, we will be closed for the 1st-3rd January. Then open again on Friday 4th as normal.

Christmas Hours

Hello everybody,

I thought it would be prudent to let you all know our hours over Christmas/NY. It’s been a pretty exciting year for us with getting the bar up-and-running and as much as we would like to shut up shop for a couple of weeks, I’ve had plenty of punters telling me they intend to spend a portion of their holidays here, so who am I to argue with habitual drinkers.

We will be closed for Christmas day and Boxing day. Then we will reopen for the gap into New Years. We will hold the most kick-arse New Years party on the 31st and then close for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd to allow us to have a staff party without some poor soul having to work while his workmates hit the piss and race go-karts.

Other than that it’s business as usual.

In good news I have purchased a set of turntables in an attempt to further my career as a professional DJ. This weekend we are launching our DJ season with DJ Missy G on Friday night. Following this, local mid-career artist Tony d will be DJing with me on Saturday night. Then on Christmas Eve Mark Catley – Hairdresser on Fire – and I will be thrashing all sorts of cool music to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Christmas Eve should be a really fun party as we are expecting a lot of people to be in town for the season. I like the Christmas Eve vibe with its midnight closing and the party being less about binge drinking until you black out and more about a chance to get together with your mates and family and have a beer and a catch up.

So I will see you all over the break, and if I don’t see you make sure you have a fun and safe Christmas and see you don’t drink and drive.

She’s Ducked Off

I got to work yesterday and the duck was gone. I can only assume that she has returned to the river with little ducklings in tow.

I’m left feeling empty, having not even seen the ducklings. Most of all I like to remember the good times, getting drunk and poking her until she bit me…

In good news we have a very short run of duck burgers available. Get them while they’re fresh.

Classic Car Picnic

Time for all you suckers with old dungers to dig them out of the garage and get them ready for summer.

Make sure you mark Sunday December 9 in your calendar for the Smash Palace and Committed Few Christmas Car Cruise. We will be meeting at Smash Palace at 11am for a coffee before departure. Following this, we will head over to Orton Bradley Park where we will eat sausages and obsessively talk about cars and bikes.

Bring your car, bring your bike, bring your kids. This is a family-friendly picnic day and should be a good chance to get a run in before Christmas.

As the owner of a number of shitty old vehicles, I know a bit of notice is nice to get the oil changed and the dodgy warrant applied. So get your shit together, this is going to be fun.
